The gospel of Jesus Christ when understood makes us realize that it is totally unattainable without God.  Just to think about loving our enemies is an unattainable task.  To mortify the deeds of the flesh, fornication, adultery, envy, jealousy, hatred, anger, fear, and malice, to name a few, should take our breath away.  Being a good Samaritan to a stranger and one in enmity with your religion is not natural.  To live our life without judging others or taking no thought about what we should eat or wear is beyond the human condition.  It is evident, then, that we need a new nature, a divine nature, a spiritual nature.  When we really hear the gospel our response can only be one.  We need to repent and we need to ask God to make us new.  We need to be born again and we need the gift of the Holy Spirit.  Without them we are trying to repair our old nature which cannot be fixed.  Our old nature is corrupt, carnal, and sin stained.  Our new nature is holy and undefiled.  Life in Christ is feeding that new nature with the word of God and obeying the inner witness of the Spirit.  If we do that we will grow in grace and truth and we will be delivered from any evil spirits that may interfere with living a life of Christian love.

            If you have tried to live a Christian life without being born again and have not succeeded, it is because the old nature cannot do it.  If you are born again and are still dealing with the flesh, God is calling you to deeper conversion and a deeper faith.  Ask God for the grace to live the gospel.  That is what God wants from all of us.  To live beyond human nature and begin to operate in the Spirit.  Only faith working by love will get you there.  Only God can do for us what is impossible for man to do.
