Removing the Veil

And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from
top to bottom
Matt 27:51

Jesus did many things as God and man among them was dealing with veils.  Because of the fall of Adam and Eve, man is born dealing with veils.  The veil of the temple separated God from humanity.  Only the high priest could enter into the inner sanctuary once a year to make atonement for sin.  Consequently for all of us we are born in darkness.  We are born in ignorance.  We are born separated, alienated from God.  So by tearing the veil through his death and resurrection, we now have access to the Father. Jesus removed a veil that kept us from receiving eternal life and life with God.

We read in St. Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians that we with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of God are transformed into that same image from glory to glory so as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2Cor3:18)  Thus we see that not only was there a veil in the temple, we, too, are born with a veil.  This veil keeps us from achieving our destiny to be conformed into the image of the Son.  The veil is the soul which covers our spirit and keeps us in darkness.  As long as we live in intellect, will, and emotions we alienate ourselves from God who is Spirit and they that worship God must worship God in spirit and in truth.  It is only when spirit meets Spirit that we are transformed.  When we are born again the word separates the soul from the spirit (Heb4:12 and we are now able to come into the presence of the living God.  By Jesus death and resurrection we are now able to be transformed into that same image from glory to glory and it begins with Jesus.  Much can be said about the life we are to live as born again Christians but one thing for sure we must learn to live in the spirit.  It is when we are in the spirit that we can truly love without judgment, condemnation, or ridicule.  Without this veil being lifted we are incapable of agape love.

Finally, it was the work of Jesus to reveal the love of God by getting people to see the essence of his being and the love of the Father by forgiving, healing, delivering, raising the dead, preaching the gospel of the kingdom that those who were in darkness might venture in faith to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior of there lives that the hope of eternal life might be given to them.  For Jesus the veil was his flesh, a body that for the lost kept them from seeing the beauty and the life of Jesus the Christ.

As born again Spirit filled Christians it is our work as well to live in the spirit that those who hear the message and behold a Christian life might take the leap of faith and receive Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives.  Our life as Christians may be the only bible a sinner may be able to read and living in the truth and life of God may lift the veil of the flesh for them.  Let us live with unveiled face, amen!
