Two Hearts

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith
Eph3:17

Why ask Jesus into your heart?  “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adultery, fornication, thefts, false witness, blasphemies” (Matt15:19)  In order to love as Jesus loved, to have a heart like Christ, we must be made new.  Unless a change takes place like Jacob, a self-seeking manipulative person becoming the meek Israel who hobbled all his life or like Saul, a self- righteous, according to the law blameless person, who persecuted the church before becoming Paul, made righteous by faith and washed in the blood of Christ, unless our heart is changed, we cannot inherit the kingdom.  Instead of God writing the law on tables of stone, now he writes them on our heart. (Heb10:16)   And Ezekiel 36:26 states

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put
within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your
flesh and I will give you a heart of flesh.

There is hope for the vilest offender if having seen Christ, and chooses to repent, will become a new creature, old things have passed away, behold all things are made new (2Cor5:17 paraphrased)  Our stony heart can be transformed to a heart of flesh.  We can receive the heart of Christ because if we invite him in, Christ will dwell there through faith.

Now to choose to invite Christ in means that you forsake the world, deny yourself, and take up your cross.  It means suffering with Christ to share in the resurrection.  It means not grieving the Spirit of God who will lead us down the path of righteousness for his name's sake and though we walk through the valley of death, we will fear no evil. (Psalm23)  Thus we are buried with him through baptism that we may rise to new life.

Two hearts becoming one.  Two hearts knit together in love. Two hearts but only one holy: the heart of Christ.  Why do we ask Jesus into our heart?  Because his heart is the only heart that is pure, meek, and lowly.  He is the all together special one and to be like him is the only life worth living.

Invite him in your heart today!

Amen
