Israel's Journey

The exodus takes place to deliver the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt.

Moses receives the 10 commandments on Mt. Sinai  1250 BC

The Levitical Priesthood begins

Moses appoints judges.

Joshua enters the Promised Land.

God appoints kings.  First Saul, then David then Solomon. 1000 BC

The kingdom is divided into the confederation in the north and a monarchy in the south.  The north follows the Mosaic covenant.  The south follows the Davidic covenant.

The prophets begin with Elijah and Elisha and Samuel.  The perform miracles and anoint but do not write.  8th Century BC

Hosea and Amos are in the north.  Because of infiltration of outside beliefs, they are strong and emphatic. 7th Century BC

Isaiah, Jeremiah, Micah are in the south.  Theirs is a gospel of hope.  Not because of the people, but because of God’s promise to David. 7th Century BC

Deuteronomy is codified just before the Babylonian takeover.  It is a word of sowing and reaping.  Do good, good things will happen.  Do badly, bad things will happen.

Habbakuk writes after this.  That the just shall live by faith.  Even if when one does good things, bad things happen, hang in.

Ezekiel writes in captivity. 586 BC  Spirituality shifts to Word worship rather than temple worship.

Ezra, Nehemiah, Daniel, Psalms are codified after the exile. Rebuild Temple and reestablish Law.  4th  & 3rd  Century BC. 

Prophesy is apocalyptic.

Jesus comes.
