Touching Without Hands
07/15/2013
By George Poulo

Never having touched with the hands
A handshake or a hug
One would imagine we never touched
But every time I see her we touch
Sharing my life
Reflections and off the cuff
We meet in a world of deep intercourse
Far away from mere dribble
And aimless chatter

Never having touched with the hands
A handshake or a hug
We touch
A thoughtful gift
That transfigures our place of exchange
Into a personal home
By merely transcending common habits
For the joy of being together

Never having touched with hands
A handshake or a hug
We meet in the gaze of the eye
Deeper depths
Higher heights
With but a look
And happiness and joy
Abound

God is the author of love
A friend beyond all friends
Who makes friendship
An holy affair
By exchanging carnal passion
For sacredness
And age and physical beauty
Meaningless

May every encounter with love
Be a touch without hands
As Spirit rises to the occasion
To bring what only God can bring
Everlasting life

Amen
