Getting Connected

A child playing at a park.  Being wrapped in  a good book.  A guitar player effortlessly playing his instrument.  Being with someone you love.  These are all good examples of being connected.  Now think of all the alienated people in the world.  People who see themselves as separate from nature, other people, and the work they perform.  Their minds are cluttered with worry, fear, resentments, and loneliness.  They have no peace and because they are not connected, they are often considered a little strange.  Unless we learn the secret of getting connected, we will not perform our jobs with care and we will not be very successful in life either.  How do we get connected?  The answer is awareness.  If we walk through a garden and do not see the rose, we are not aware.  If a coworker needs our help and we are caught up in last night's television program, we are not aware.  If we are thinking about anything other than what we are presently doing, we are not aware.  To become aware is to free ourselves from any kind of attachment which keeps us from being in the present.  To become aware is to get connected to the now and when we get connected to the now, we will perform our job with the skill of an artist and the care of a lover.  Learn the secret of awareness and you will find yourself not only successful in work but in life as well.  EOM
